Millport Moorings

CCDC has some thrilling news to share regarding the 2016 sailing season. We were approached earlier this year by North Ayrshire Council to partner in a project with the Isle of Arran. The project scope was to improve and where possible, extend the number and use of moorings on the two islands.

CEO, Mr Michael Bertram and Director Mr Robert (Bob) Campbell were mandated by the Board of Directors to pursue this opportunity on behalf of CCDC.

North Ayrshire Council informed CCDC that £99,160 was to be made available from the Coastal Communities Fund; and this his figure would be enhanced with £10,000 from North Ayrshire Council (NAC) which would go towards advertising and the training of future staff.

These funds are to be shared between Isle of Arran and the Isle of Cumbrae.

Wallace Stone Consulting Engineers of Glasgow; were appointed by NAC to conduct bathymetric studies of the ocean bed, to determine where these new moorings could be situated.

This work was done in consultation with the Crown Estates, who are the official owners of the sea bed in Scotland.

Wallace Stone has recommend that Millport could accommodate 18 additional moorings. This recommendation and the new positioning will be subject to ratification at the September 12th 2015 meeting of Clyde Moorings Association.
